This week's sermon is about clothes. In Exodus 28, God gave a detailed description of the clothing for the high priest. We'll consider what they were and their significance for our understanding of God, Adam, you, and Christ. I think it will be very encouraging to you as we think about it together. David and Maree have played a huge role in Evergreen over the past couple of decades, and God has led them to move to Gallatin, TN. We will miss them greatly, and we want to pray God's blessing over them as they move on to this new chapter of their lives. I look forward to seeing you all Sunday.

Fellowship is an essential part of our worship time. The past few weeks have been busy Sundays at Evergreen. Last week every child and youth met with their Prayer Buddy to eat a neat snack of cookies and punch and pray with their adult mentors. This Sunday was fellowship time with food, games and volleyball! You are always welcome to join us at Evergreen!

In ancient times, the priests would come out of the temple and declare a blessing on the people. This ancient benediction is repeated and expanded on in the beautiful words of Psalm 67: Responsive Benediction (Psalm 67): Pastor: May God be gracious to us and bless us People: and make his face shine on us— Pastor: so that your ways may be known on earth, People: your salvation among all nations. Pastor: May the peoples praise you, God; People: may all the peoples praise you. Pastor: May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity People: and guide the nations of the earth. Pastor: May the peoples praise you, God; People: may all the peoples praise you. Pastor: The land yields its harvest; People: God, our God, blesses us. Pastor: May God bless us still, People: so that all the ends of the earth will fear him. This will be our benediction this Sunday.

This Sunday, we will consider "God's Tent," God's dwelling with His people. We will see that the fulfillment of God's tent is many-sided. One of those aspects is that we are God's tent or temple. Consider the benediction from this Sunday's service: Pastor: Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (1 Cor. 3:16) People: For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people” (2 Cor. 6:16) Pastor: Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? People: You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Pastor: How can we do this? People: In Christ. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit (Eph. 2:21-22). Pastor: Go in peace to serve the Lord and love those around you, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

We face challenges of secularization and of polarization. What are we to do? How about genuine love? Have we tried genuine love as a way of relating to our culture? We’re warming up for worship! Come and join us and let us worship God together. Bring your burdens, praises and heaviness and lift them up to the one that constantly prays for us and is seated at the right hand of God, Christ Jesus. This morning we will worship, partake in the Lord’s table and hear from Pastor Wes on “The Blood of the Covenant.”

God has revealed the perfect way to live that will make us blessed, happy, and good. But what do we do when we've failed to live up to it? What do we do when we haven't become what we're supposed to be or made mistake after mistake that we continue to struggle with? We need a better foundation for our relationship with God than our own (lack of) obedience. We need the blood of the covenant. That's what we'll consider this Sunday (6/23) from Exodus 24:1-11. We will see how God provides us with a perfect foundation for a relationship with Him and also restores us so we become the type of people He has made us to be.
